Are you the ‘Responsible Person’ for an Industrial or Commercial premise?
In which case, you’ll already know that under the fire regulations, accountability for fire safety lies with you – the ‘Responsible Person’ is the employer or person who has control of the premises or part of it. The Fire Safety Order (The Regulatory Reform 2005, introduced in 2006) requires provision for correct signage and emergency lighting of emergency routes and exits from the building. Routine testing and maintenance of the emergency lighting system is also a requirement, and any failure to follow the correct procedures may hold serious implications for the responsible person.
Emergency lighting is essential for the safety of building occupants where a sudden loss of light may put lives at risk. Provision was brought in under the Fire Safety Order, where emergency lighting can really save lives, but emergency lighting is just as valuable when normal lighting has been lost through power failure.
At Highland, we provide an emergency lighting service for all our clients, as part of their existing contract, a one-off or as part of our facilities management service.
Remember it’s your duty to take care of your employees, and at Highland, we have the expertise, experience and knowledge to help you do this.
